Buenos Aires, December 24 (NA) - The San Miguel Emergency System participated in a special operation during the two pilgrimages to the Basilica of Luján held this year: the youth pilgrimage in October and the one for the Immaculate Conception in early December, the municipality reported.
The deployment included a team of 32 people, consisting of 6 doctors, 7 emergency nurses, and 4 final-year students from the municipal nursing school, as well as rescue workers, CPR instructors, and firefighters.
For assistance along the route, the municipality made available a logistics vehicle, 4 high-complexity Mobile Intensive Care Units (MICUs), and a sanitary ambulance also equipped for higher-complexity care, the area specified.
According to the Argentine News Agency, the operation aimed to address typical issues of long-distance walks—dehydration, heat strokes, injuries—and to maintain a rapid response to emergencies in coordination with the flow of pilgrims.
The San Miguel Emergency System operates via the 107 number, and according to official data, it replaced the SAME (Emergency Medical Service) in the district last year, with an average of 40 daily calls and over 10,000 annual attendances.
The local Executive branch highlighted that the scheme seeks to reinforce prevention and response capacity at mass events and anticipated that the model will be replicated in high-attendance activities throughout the annual calendar.
